Renne Public Law Group (RPLG) welcomes Senior Associate Peter Krzywicki. Formerly a trial attorney in the environment and natural resources division of the U.S. Department of Justice, he brings more than a decade of litigation and appellate experience in matters related to environmental and public-interest law.

During his 13-year tenure with the Justice Department, Peter represented the United States in complex environmental cases, handling matters involving federal statutes, regulatory compliance and natural resource protection. He focused on enforcing environmental laws such as the Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act and Environmental Protection Agency’s Superfund and honed his trial and appellate-level advocacy skills facing off against adversaries who represented major national and international corporations such as Olin Corporation and BASF.

As a mentor in the department’s law clerks program, Peter helped new attorneys learn and navigate new experiences as they start their legal careers.

“I genuinely enjoy talking about and thinking through legal issues and legal challenges,” he said. “I consider myself a legal nerd in that way. The more perspectives you have and the consistency with which you engage in other people’s perspectives, the better you are as a lawyer.”

A self-described “mission-first kind of person,” Peter was attracted to RPLG’s focus on local government and public impact matters. The firm’s high-caliber attorneys and collaborative culture reinforced his interest.

“I’m a firm believer that one way we grow and learn as people is to surround ourselves with other excellent people,” he said. “I was attracted to the idea of working with people who are talented, even award-winning litigators, who come from all different walks of life and have a strong sense of collegiality, caring and compassion.”

Peter served as a law clerk for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit in Detroit, a summer law clerk with both the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Iran Human Rights Documentation Center and a research assistant at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

He earned his juris doctor from the University of Michigan Law School and his bachelor of arts in philosophy from the University of Michigan.

“With his deep litigation background, commitment to environmental protection and dedication to public service, Peter is an outstanding addition to the RPLG team,” said Founding Partner Jon Holtzman. “We look forward to the perspective he will bring to our clients and the energy that he will bring to our team.”

“I’m excited to help RPLG advance its mission and bring both litigation and mentoring experience to what feels like a very collegial, people-first team,” said Peter.

RPLG practices throughout California, advising and advocating for public agencies and nonprofits, providing forward-thinking, responsive and creative legal solutions.
