Renne Public Law Group (RPLG) Founding Partner Jon Holtzman, Partner and Head of Investigations Practice Karen Carrera and Director of Labor Relations Luke Jensen, along with Renne Public Management Group (RPMG) Executive Director Nelson Fialho and Consultant June Catalano, will share their expertise with local government leaders at the League of California Cities (Cal Cities) City Managers Conference, February 11–13, in Napa.
The conference, geared toward city managers and assistant or deputy city managers, will address topics such as ethics, council-manager relationships and strategic planning, providing city officials with essential information and current updates needed to operate effectively and best position their communities for the future.
“We are grateful to Cal Cities for providing this forum year after year,” said Nelson, who served as city manager for the City of Pleasanton for 17 years. “Our firm values the opportunity to connect with former colleagues, learn from speakers and share our own experiences.”
June will moderate a panel, “From the Ground Up: Women City Managers on How They Got to the Top,” featuring Concord City Manager Valerie Barone and Mountain View City Manager Kimbra McCarthy. During the session, the panelists will reflect on what helped them succeed, what they wish they’d known sooner and what aspiring leaders of all genders should keep in mind as they climb the ladder.
“Our session offers an opportunity to hear from several accomplished women city managers from diverse personal and professional backgrounds who have risen to the top in some of California’s most complex and high-profile communities,” said June.
June, most recent city manager for the City of Pleasant Hill, began her career in the City of Huntington Beach’s development services department and subsequently held community development director positions in Laguna Beach and Santa Ana. She then served as the director of development services for the City of San Leandro and assistant city manager for the City of Milpitas before advancing as city manager for the City of Martinez.
