Renne Public Law Group (RPLG) Assistant Managing Partner Andrew Shen and Associate Mauricio Grande will present at the League of California Cities’ Planning Commissioners Academy, leading a pre-conference workshop on public service ethics laws required under AB 1234 on March 11.
The two-hour session, “Understanding Public Service Ethics Laws and Principles (AB 1234),” will help planning commissioners navigate the ethics and open government training requirements mandated by state law.
“Planning commissioners drive local development by acting as key decision-makers on land use, development approvals and housing policy,” said Andrew. “The importance of understanding ethics law extends beyond compliance — it’s about building public trust and ensuring commissioners can serve effectively while navigating complex situations that arise in local government.”
The session will kick off the 2026 Planning Commissioners Academy in Anaheim, California.
Andrew and Mauricio have delivered AB 1234 ethics training to a variety of audiences, including at the Institute for Local Government’s New Mayors and Council Members Academy and League of California Cities’ NorCal Mayors and Council Members Academy.
“Andrew and Mauricio’s commitment to assisting planning commissioners with ethics education reflects RPLG’s broader mission of strengthening local government,” said Founding Partner Jon Holtzman. “We aim to equip audiences with the knowledge they need to navigate ethics laws and embrace transparent, accountable local institutions to better serve their communities.”
