ABOUT DAVID NAGLER
David Nagler was raised in San Mateo by parents embedded in service to their community and that has defined his career in both the public and private sectors. His professional experience has been diverse, ranging from public policy consulting, corporate executive management, human resources, corporate communications, legislative advocacy, leadership and organizational development, nonprofit management and board membership, and public office service.
In the corporate world, David served as Senior Vice President, Corporate Affairs and Human Resources at Audentes Therapeutics (now an Astellas Company). Prior to that, he was Vice President Corporate Affairs and Secretary at ARYx Therapeutics. David was with Genentech for many years before that, serving as Vice President Human Resources as well as Senior Director Government Affairs. Prior to joining Genentech, David co-founded JLA Associates in Sacramento, a legislative and association management consulting firm that he later sold to Nossaman, Guthner, Knox and Elliott, a California law firm, where he spent 10 years as a legislative advocate, representing companies, trade associations and local government agencies. He also served as executive director to a number of trade organizations who had an interest in the California Capitol.
David has spent a number of years as an independent consultant to leaders and organizations on growth, effective communications, team building and public policy development.
Through the course of his career, David served as both management and board director for a number of nonprofit organizations. Lead amongst them was David’s role as Executive Director of both the California Special Districts Association, representing the breadth of special districts throughout California, and the WaterReuse Association, which he helped establish to advocate for the expansion of recycling of consumable water by local government agencies.
In his community and charitable work, David served on the Planning Commission in the City of Pleasanton (California), the Pleasanton Human Services Commission, the board of directors of U.C. Davis CONNECT, as well as the boards of the Northern California Chapter of the American Liver Foundation and the John Vasconcellos Legacy Project.
